SEGEDUNUM, NEWCASTLE

Segedunum Roman Fort lies at the northeast end of Hadrian’s Wall. We were commissioned to produce a large-scale introductory AV projection and interactive touchscreen map.

ARRIVAL AV

Our 3-minute AV is the first exhibit within the Roman Life gallery and is projected onto the sail of a scenic Roman boat. The concept was to take the visitor on a journey back to AD122, as though they are sailing along the River Tyne before landing at the Fort.

Working closely with the client and archaeology experts, we created the fort’s buildings and key characters in 3D. Short captions help convey key messages and build the sense of a simple storyline unfolding, whilst an ambient soundtrack provides atmosphere.

MAPPING THE ROMAN EMPIRE

This touchscreen map was designed to encourage the visitor to explore the ever-changing power struggle of the Roman Empire in Britain.

To enhance interaction and visual engagement we used items from the collection to act as location markers at key moments in time.
